Working with Shire since 2001 Morgan Sindall Professional Services was retained to identify opportunities within the existing building and to design an extension to their headquarters office in Basingstoke.
Adjoining the existing building the three storey L-shaped extension provided an additional 5,740m2 of office space catering for 200 people. Facilities included a variety of new meeting and breakout spaces plus a staff fitness centre.
The existing space office accommodation was reviewed and options provided for an optimised working environment in the extension including personalised work spaces in an open plan environment, breakout, meeting and quiet spaces

The brief included managing a cultural step change from a cellular environment to an open plan layout, reflecting the newly launched Shire brand and improving communication.
Energy conservation and sustainability are important to Shire. Throughout the design low energy and sustainable solutions were maximised resulting in a BREEAM ’Very good’ rating.
