AstraZeneca needed flexible research and development laboratories which keep pace with changing scientific needs. This drove the ethos of AstraZeneca’s new £63 million Pharmaceutical Development Facility at Macclesfield, the largest single capital investment approved on the site. Advanced modular construction techniques were used in the delivery of building services ‘future-proofing’ the laboratory space.

Over 220 scientists and office staff work in the 12,000m2 four-floor building, The ground floor provides the main meeting rooms and business support functions with a central service hub linked to each of the three laboratory floors.

We reduced energy costs for Astra Zeneca by 20% and were able to knock six months off the construction programme time by building 80% of the facility off site
