The three-storey building, opened in October 2010 goes beyond previous facilities by offering a fully flexible space. The 8,300m2 building houses pharmaceutical research and development facilities for 101 scientists and researchers working in the areas of diabetes, obesity and dyslipemia.

The pioneering Flexilab concept came from a joint research project between Morgan Sindall Professional Services and GlaxoSmithKline specialists.

Our latest developments mean that laboratory layouts can be fully reconfigured in just a few days – dramatically faster when compared with the many months associated with reconfiguring traditional fixed bench laboratories.

The design team embraced, and even improved the innovations introduced by previous GSK projects of this type. Throughout the project, the team were conscious of cost, both in terms of their own performance delivery and that of the work package contractors which were well managed.

Ken Newton, GSK Senior Project Manager

Our multidisciplinary offering included specialist areas such as site wide infrastructure masterplanning and integrated laboratory planning. The project challenged the traditional project expectations by reducing cost and programme whilst providing life cycle energy savings and reductions in reconfiguration costs.
